For The Home
In the past, the possession of silver became a yardstick of real wealth. However, only a very few people were able to establish their position by having such things as eating bowls or silver spoons, (which were normally produced in wood, horn or base metals).
It was also a form of investment and for centuries, it was considered only as money in the bank. This is why so little early silver survives, if it was not demanded as a tax it could be melted down and re-fashioned when the person was able to afford it.
Today, our manufacturing Company, purchases silver in blank, sheet and wire form. It is then manufactured by hand, before being sent to the Assay Office for hallmarking.
Why do I need hallmarking protection?
Pure gold, silver and platinum are too soft to be used in jewellery or domestic articles and are normally alloyed with other metals. This lowers the intrinsic value and also raises the question of how much other metal has been added. It is impossible to tell what proportion of precious metal there is in any article without the help of laboratory analysis. Colour alone is no guide - especially if it has been plated with gold.
