Silver Gifts for Men
These glass items are produced by Krosno which is the largest glass industry centre in Poland. The development of glass production in Krosno today is connected with a long established regional tradition of glass making and decorating.
The process used to make this glass is known as Mouthblown glass. The working hole is where the glass is kept until the artist removes a gather of glass onto the blowpipe. After pulling the gather from the furnace a small amount of air is blown into the molten glass. At this point the gather is rolled across a flat iron table which gives the glass its preliminary shaping and a cooler skin to contain the bubble as it is being blown into shape, either free hand or with the aid of a mould.
The glass blower will then blow through the pipe again and expand the piece more. A rod is then stuck onto the bottom of the vase or drinking glass to make the rim. After the basic shape of the object is finished then a rim foot or handle can be added and fused with the hot glass. When the vessel is finished and the pontil rod broken off the glass can then be cooled slowly so it does n't shatter.
The silver is handmade in England by highly skilled craftsmen. Once it has been manufactured it is sent to the Assay Office for hallmarking and is then carefully fitted to the glass and finished.
